He held a fellowship at Music Academy of the West, was in residence at Lunenburg Academy of Performing Arts, and toured internationally to China with iSING International Festival, and nationally with Jeunesses Musicales du Canada.
Jonathan is passionate about new works and has premiered or debut many works and operas especially with FAWN Chamber Creative. Recent classical operatic credits include Lindoro (L'Italiana in Algeri), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Lindoro (Barbiere di Siviglia), Mopsa (Fairy Queen) and Damon (Acis & Galatea). Praised in Schmopera for his "amazing lyrical singing voice and larger-than-life flair for comedy".
With the absence of live performances in the 2020 year, Jonathan is exploring new interests in graphic design, and animation, songwriting and self-accompaniment.
Jonathan was recently featured as a soloist in what's been described as a "love letter to Toronto" with Soundstreams: the music video production and studio recording of Electric Messiah 2020.
As a culture-worker, Jonathan started with FAWN Chamber Creative as General Manager and then at Against the Grain Theatre, where he co-led the company through an organizational residency at the Canadian Opera Company. With AtG, he produced the landmark, Dora-Award winning co-production with Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and Opera Columbus Orphée⁺, as well as Bound v. 1 and v.2, Figaro's Wedding, and the total masterpiece, Vivier's Kopernikus. He was a participant at the Cultural Leadership Program at Banff Centre in 2019 and is currently the Marketing and Engagement Manager with Buddies in Bad Times Theatre; an Artist-in-Residence at FAWN Chamber Creative; is a founding member of Iranian-Canadian quartet Charsu; and is the founding member and frontman of the band DONNA, where he combines operatic sensations with queer lyrics, in a trio dedicated to nourishing a bold, synthy-pop, dance kind of sound. Jonathan has performed at the JUNO's and Polaris Prize with award-winning artist Jeremy Dutcher celebrating his incredible album Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa. He is a two-time Dora-Award winner, and is a frequent performer with Soundstreams, namely as the soloist in the Electric Messiah, and recently in Two Odysseys.
"Two of my favourite moments performing in Toronto have to be in rehearsal and on stage in Illuminato's epic production of Apocalypses by R. Murray Schafer, and a memorial Mozart Requiem in the heat of summer, in the sacred space that is Toronto Island's St-Andrew-by-the-Lake."
